The Young Scholars is an after-school tutoring program. It is a research-based literacy development initiative for 1st and 2nd graders that targets critical literacy skills such as Fluency, Comprehension, Accuracy, and Comprehension. These skills are foundational as they effect every aspect of a student’s education.
The program currently takes place after school at Brockett Elementary School in DeKalb County. Throughout the program, volunteers will seek to close critical gaps that will make a significant difference in the students' education for years to come.
Ginger Holland, Director of Young Scholars, has worked in the field of education in varying capacities for the past 9 years. She graduated from Winthrop University with a BS in Elementary Education. Ginger has her Gifted Education Certification as well as Middle School Certification in the areas of English Language Arts, Social Sciences, and Science. She also holds a M.Ed in Administration and Educational Policy from the University of Georgia. It was Ginger's passion, research and expertise that designed and developed the Young Scholars program.
